Summer Slam 2018 Week 1 - July 17

Day 2 of the Summer Slam began with the much-awaited theme of the week – Dinosaurs!

...from Greek;
deinos ‘terrible’ + sauros‘ lizard’ - now why are so fascinated by these 'terrible lizards'?  You need to ask the children.  So catering to that fascination, we explored Dinosaurs, a category of animals, most closely related to birds and crocodiles. We were pleasantly surprised by the depth of knowledge the 'slammers' offered.

Pictured below is the 'mind-map' that we used to approach the topic with "what would you like to know?"...

We are making our own Jurassic World!  The rest, a secret until the screening, well showing-off, at least!

Extra special and tasty - the cookies that the children made, using moulds of Dinosaurs, and shapes to make fossils..

In the pictures:
The coloured rice (made yesterday) being put to good use as we decorated our drawings with that.
Another art project in the making- Dino hats.
All this making and crafting sure got us hungry and we settled for lunch.
We read from a lovely storybook, contributed by Ananya.

Coach Dennis and Asst. Coach (self-appointed) Sathish, got the children to practice dribbling, chest passes and shooting all after a round of warm-up exercises.

Fitness Guru (Uncle) Suhairi is back again for our Summer Slam 2018. We would be doing our rhythmic movements using the music from the 60’s and the 70’s. Today was a blast, starting with that disco hit of all time' Le Freak!

Snack time was amazing with the 'Dinosaur and fossil' cookies.  Some of our older 'slammers' eagerly took down the ingredients and recipe, to give it a go, at home! We are looking forward to hearing from you about the outcome.
